Noah Sheldon : Pink and Tan

Posted in Audio Art at 5:31 pm by sangwon

Noah Sheldon is an artist who has various backgrounds; he first studied music, received his BA in photography, and graduated with an MFA from Columbia University. In his solo show at D’Amelio Terras gallery, Noah presents “synesthetic environment using photography, sculpture, sound, and light”.

Noah Sheldon’s installation works collaborated with sound, such as an upright piano, a fountain encased in a plywood box, and mechanized wind chimes making different kinds of sounds. Hence, those works created an interesting sound synthesis; because each installation makes an improvised sound, the whole works sound just like jazz. The fountain installation’s sound is not effective though. I could listen to the faint water sound in a certain environment – standing right in front of the fountain. Actually, each and every sound is rather boring, but the synthesis of all the sounds together is quite interesting. Also the effect of the collaboration between sound and the pink light creates a unique environment.
